Norway & the Vikings

Although evidence of inhabitants can be traced back to 6600 BC, Norway's most famous period undoubtedly is the Age of the Viking's which lasted from approximately 800 AD to 1050 AD.

Early Vikings were tradesmen and farmers. But it was their impressive ship-building knowledge that allowed the clans to take to the waters on a larger scale, raiding, colonizing, and trading throughout Europe and beyond. Leif Erikson, perhaps the most famous Viking explorer, discovered the Americas some 500 years before Christopher Columbus.

"Land of the Midnight Sun"

While Viking legends live on, today's Norway is a destination filled with personality, and visitors flock to Norway to experience it's intense beauty, and thriving heritage.

Norway is one of Europe’s most mountainous countries, claims it's longest coastline, and with fully one-third of the country situated above the Arctic Circle, Norway is one of the few locations where sunset merges into sunrise, with no darkness in between -- hence the nickname "Land of the Midnight Sun".

Norway also ranks among the safest, happiest, and wealthiest countries in the world in annual surveys.
